Ear Surgery In Las Vegas, NV

Prominarius or protruding ears are caused by a malformation of ear cartilage during development and are often a source of low self-esteem, insecurity, and bullying for children and adults alike. Protruding ears are the most common congenital abnormality of the face in children and are associated with psychosocial distress and social isolation. Ear reshaping surgery, also known as otoplasty, is the surgical correction of protruding ears and is the most frequently performed aesthetic operation in children and adolescents.

Dr. Mehdi Sina is a board-certified facial plastic surgery specialist with disciplined training and experience performing ear surgery on both children and adults.

What Are the Benefits of Ear Surgery?

The goal of otoplasty is to achieve a natural-looking ear. Otoplasty can provide the following benefits:

  • Improve protruding ears
  • Increase the patient’s self-confidence
  • Repair the structure of the ear after injury or trauma

How Much Does Ear Pinning Surgery Cost in Las Vegas?

The cost of ear reshaping surgery in Las Vegas varies, depending on whether one or both ears need correction, the ability to use local anesthesia versus the need for general anesthesia (typically in children), the complexity of the procedure, and the expertise of the surgeon. Higher-caliber surgeons command higher pricing, as their insight and credibility tend to result in more reliable outcomes, a more personalized and luxurious patient experience, and a reduced risk of a botched result. Dr. Sina’s extensive training and technical skill create consistent, high-quality otoplasty results.

Once Dr. Sina makes a custom treatment plan for you, he will provide you with an accurate cost estimate.

Am I a Candidate for Ear Pinning Surgery?

Otoplasty is one of the few cosmetic procedures routinely performed on children. As children’s ears are almost fully developed by age five, it’s not uncommon for parents to elect this procedure to give their child a more comfortable socialization experience, as protruding ears can often bring about bullying from peers. Of course, this procedure is also routinely performed on adults who wish to achieve a more typical ear aesthetic. Candidates for otoplasty have a desire to:

  • Correct asymmetries
  • Attain a more natural ear shape
  • Move the ears closer to the head
  • Straighten curled ears
  • Improve self-confidence

Additionally, candidates for otoplasty must be generally in good health, have reasonable expectations for results, and be nonsmokers. If you are considering this procedure for your child, they must be in good health and are not distressed by the idea of surgery.

If you would like to find out if you or your child is a candidate for ear surgery, the best way to find out is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sina. Call Vegas Facial Plastics today at (702) 890-8507 or fill out our online contact form to get started.

What Are My Ear Surgery Options?

Dr. Sina will utilize specific otoplasty techniques based on your anatomy, goals, and requirements for the procedure.

Aesthetic Otoplasty

This technique encompasses the majority of ear surgeries, as it is used for cosmetic corrections. Aesthetic otoplasty can include ear pinning, ear reshaping, or lobe repair/reduction. Cosmetic ear surgery can also correct a botched result from a previous procedure.

Reconstructive Otoplasty

Reconstructive ear surgery corrects deformities or damage caused by trauma or injury. The extent of reconstructive otoplasty will vary based on each patient’s unique needs and will be determined during your personal consultation with Dr. Sina.

How Is Ear Surgery Performed?

Your Consultation

The first step in your ear surgery process is a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Sina. During this meeting, he will listen to your goals and examine your ears. Before creating a potential surgical plan, Dr. Sina will also educate you on the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as describe what you can expect from the results.

If you and Dr. Sina agree that ear surgery is right for you, he will make an appropriate surgical plan that incorporates the techniques used. He will then provide you with an accurate cost estimate and pre-surgical instructions.

The Ear Surgery Procedure

Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure and can be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia. This procedure can typically be performed in under two hours. Each surgical procedure will vary depending on the type of otoplasty performed, the patient’s anatomy, and the surgical plan, but the general steps are as follows:

  • Dr. Sina will place the incision behind the ear or inside its folds, reducing the appearance of scarring.
  • For ear pinning, he will place the incision behind the ear to remove excess cartilage and move the ear closer to the head. Additionally, sutures can be placed to create the natural folds of the ears if necessary.
  • Ear reconstruction may include a combination of the above techniques.

What Is Ear Surgery Recovery Like?

Immediately following ear reshaping surgery, your ears will be wrapped in a compressive dressing. Expect to feel drowsy from the anesthesia—you’ll need a responsible driver to take you home. Each patient is different, but a general ear surgery recovery timeline is as follows:

  • The surgical drain is removed after one day, while the compressive dressing is removed after day three.
  • A protective headband will replace the dressing and must be worn day and night for two weeks.
  • Skin sutures are removed after one week.
  • The headband is worn at night only for another two months.

Dr. Sina will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, so be sure to follow these as best you can. If you have any questions or concerns during recovery, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Sina.

When Will I See My Ear Surgery Results?

You can expect bruising to persist for about two weeks, along with some swelling. As these symptoms dissipate, you’ll be able to see the results of your procedure. The ears will be closer to the head without obvious protrusion, revealing a more natural-looking ear shape and contours.

In any case, otoplasty patients are pleased with the results, and many adult patients only wish they had done it sooner.
