Are All Facelifts the Same?

The answer to this question is ABSOLUTELY NOT. Knowing this simple fact is the critical first step in any facial rejuvenation journey. While any procedure designed to “lift” the sagging tissues of the face can be called a facelift, the exact technique used will determine the quality and longevity of the surgical result. Inferior and outdated techniques include skin-only facelifts, SMAS plication or imbrication, and even high SMAS techniques.

It is widely accepted by facial rejuvenation experts that the gold standard facelift technique is the deep plane facelift.

What Are the Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift?

The key to a successful, long-lasting facelift result is the technique used and the skill of the surgeon. A deep plane facelift offers treatment of the deep layers of the face—providing superior results than alternative skin-tightening treatments and mini or “weekend” facelifts.

A deep plane facelift targets the SMAS tissue layer under the skin and releases it from the underlying ligaments, muscles, and fat compartments and lifts and repositions the SMAS to a more youthful position. A deep plane facelift treats the following age-related concerns:

  • Jowls
  • Marionette lines
  • Loss of jawline definition
  • Deep nasolabial folds
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Loose skin of the neck
  • Neck bands
  • Loss of definition at the neck angle

A successful facelift is the ultimate in facial rejuvenation, helping patients look refreshed, rested, and 10–20 years younger.

How Much Does a Deep Plane Facelift Cost in Las Vegas?

The cost of a deep plane facelift in Las Vegas varies within a range, depending on the extent and complexity of the surgery, whether you have additional combined procedures, and the expertise of your surgeon. Highly experienced facial rejuvenation specialists who employ deep plane facelift techniques command higher prices as their expertise and experience with the procedure ensure a more attractive, natural-looking, and long-lasting result. In addition, they are able to provide a more luxurious patient experience, and there is a reduced risk of a botched result.

Once Dr. Sina creates a custom surgical plan for your deep plane facelift, he will provide you with an accurate cost estimate.

Am I a Candidate for a Deep Plane Facelift?

Most people assume you have to be over a certain age to qualify for a facelift, but your facial aging concerns and their severity are more important considerations than age. For example, younger patients with moderate to severe facial creasing, jowling, etc., may be candidates based on their concerns alone. Additionally, facelift candidates:

  • Exhibit skin and tissue laxity around the mid-face and neck
  • Want to remedy deep wrinkling and creases
  • Desire a more contoured face, neck, and jawline
  • Are in generally good health
  • Are nonsmokers or are willing to quit
  • Have reasonable expectations for results

If you think you might be a candidate for a deep plane facelift, the best way to determine if this is the right procedure for you is to schedule an appointment with a facial rejuvenation specialist. Dr. Sina will help you determine if you are an ideal candidate during your consultation. Call Vegas Facial Plastics today at (702) 890-8507 or fill out our online contact form to get started.

What Are My Deep Plane Facelift Options?

The deep plane facelift technique will vary depending on your specific goals and anatomy. In addition to nuances in surgical technique, Dr. Sina can include treatment of adjacent areas, such as the eyebrows and upper and lower eyelids.

Blepharoplasty

If you are experiencing age-related concerns around the eye area, Dr. Sina can treat excess skin, eye bags, and puffiness with eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.

Neck Lift

The neck is almost always treated along with the face during a facelift, as this increases the cohesiveness of the result; some patients may need tightening of the platysma muscle, while others may only require treatment of excess skin.

How Is a Deep Plane Facelift Performed?

Your Consultation

The first step in any plastic surgery procedure is the initial consultation. During this meeting, Dr. Sina will give you the opportunity to explain, in detail, the areas of your face that you are unhappy with. He will listen attentively, and once you have thoroughly listed all of your concerns, he will perform a thorough examination of your face and neck. He will then design a patient-specific, one-of-one surgical plan to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

The goals of the deep plane facelift consultation include:

  • A detailed discussion between you and Dr. Sina to review your specific goals for surgery.
  • To review the likely results of the deep plane facelift, considering your unique needs and anatomy.
  • To discuss the possible limitations of surgery.
  • To discuss the postoperative recovery process in detail.
  • To discuss the risks and benefits of a deep plane facelift so you can have all the information you need to move forward.

Whether you decide to undergo this procedure or not, you will leave your consultation more informed and prepared to make educated decisions about your cosmetic surgery.

If you decide that a deep plane facelift is for you, and Dr. Sina agrees, he will create a custom surgical plan that best addresses your goals. He will then provide you with an accurate cost estimate and pre-surgical instructions.

The Deep Plane Facelift Procedure

Deep plane facelifts are outpatient procedures performed using general anesthesia. Each patient will receive a custom surgical plan for their facelift; however, a general deep plane facelift procedure is as follows:

  • Dr. Sina will make a discreet incision that is hidden in the natural creases that separate the ear and the cheek, as well as along the hairline. These incisions heal remarkably well when closed meticulously.
  • He will then elevate a short segment of skin, crease the deep plane entry point, and elevate the SMAS off of the deep tissues of the face. Once the SMAS is fully released, it is repositioned in a more youthful position and sutured in place.
  • The neck is accessed through a small incision in the chin crease. The skin of the neck is elevated, and the platysma muscle is identified. The edges of the platysma are elevated centrally, and the muscles and glands of the deep neck are evaluated; if necessary, they are reduced. Finally, the platysma is sewn together in the midline, and the lateral edges are tightened to complete the neck lift.
  • Drains are placed.
  • Once the SMAS complex and platysma have been lifted and tightened, Dr. Sina will carefully redrape and cut away the redundant skin.
  • Next, he will meticulously close the skin incisions.
  • Finally, the neck and face dressings are applied.

What Is Deep Plane Facelift Recovery Like?

Most patients can return to work around two weeks after facelift surgery. Recovery times will vary slightly, depending on the patient’s natural healing process and the complexity of the procedure. However, a general facelift recovery timeline may look like this:

  • Headwrap and drains removed 1 day after surgery
  • Sutures are removed 5–10 days after surgery
  • Bruising resolves 1–2 weeks after surgery
  • Most swelling resolves 2–4 weeks after surgery

Dr. Sina will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions—be sure to follow these as closely as possible. Keeping your head elevated and using cold compresses can help alleviate swelling, especially in the early stages of recovery. Be sure to get plenty of rest, paired with gradual movement, to reduce blood clotting.

When Will I See My Deep Plane Facelift Results?

At first, your facelift results will be hidden by some swelling and bruising—but as this dissipates around week two, you’ll begin to see the rejuvenating results. Your jawline will look more sculpted with the elimination of loose skin and jowls; your cheeks and midface will look lifted, more youthful, and shapely, and previous deep creases will be reduced.

A deep plane facelift from Dr. Sina is the best facial rejuvenation procedure you can undergo; patients are ecstatic to see a younger and more rested vision of themselves in the mirror.
